History

The Spanish Rugby Federation was founded in 1923. Spain’s first international recognition was in 1929 at Barcelona´s Montjuïc Stadium against Italy. It was an iconic match because the Spanish Royal Family was in attendance, all of the players were Catalan, and Spain defeated Italy with a score of 9-0.

FC Barcelona Rugby is Barcelona´s rugby union club and was formed in 1924. The club plays home games at the Ciutat Esportiva Municipal Vall d’Hebrón-Teixonera and is an essential part of the FC Barcelona family. During its early years, the club won the championship for Spain three times and the championship for Catalonia seven times. FCB was one of the strongest rugby clubs in Spain with their winnings totaling over 10 championships. Their first Spanish league titles were won in 1953 and 1954.
